Kathmandu, Aug 11 (ANI): Maoist spokesperson Dina Nath Sharma has said his party chairman and prime ministerial candidate Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda is ready to withdraw his candidacy for the prime minister post if other parties agreed to amend the Interim Constitution.

If Nepali Congress and UML come up with a proposal to amend the Constitution we will think about withdrawing the candidacy of Prachanda, Nepal news quoted Sharma as, saying.

If the game of forming and dissolving of government in the name of majority continues, Constitution will not be drafted. Therefore if UML and Nepali Congress propose amending the Constitution we will withdraw our candidacy, he added.

Peace and constitution cannot be ensured if we engage in making and breaking majority governments, Sharma said.

The details of the amendments to the Constitution sought by the Maoists is yet to be spelt out clarly.

The previous four elections held on August 6, July 21, July 23 and August 2 had failed to elect a prime minister as both Prachanda and Nepali Congress vice chairman Ram Chandra Poudel failed to secure clear majority.

The fifth round of voting for a prime minister will take place on August 18.

In the fourth round off, 213 lawmakers voted in favor of Prachanda while 99 voted against him. Some 156 lawmakers had remained neutral.

Altogether 561 lawmakers participated during the voting for Poudel while 468 lawmakers of the 601 member legislature parliament participated during the voting for Prachanda.

In the third run off, Prachanda secured 259 votes, while Paudel got 124, in the 599-member parliament.

According to existing parliamentary regulations the election for the post of Prime Minister at the legislature parliament keeps on repeating until a prime minister is elected, Nepalnews reported. (ANI)
