New York, Dec 6 (ANI): Hitler's love affair with his Mercedes is giving headaches to the top brass at Daimler Benz, for like many Germans, they too don't like to be associated with him even though it's a historical fact that the Fuhrer used a Mercedes.
Gary Zimet, who sells memorabilia on his Web site Moments- inTime.com has reportedly come in possession of two contracts Hitler entered with the German automobile giant, one recording his purchase of a car in 1930 and the other turning over the car to the Nazi Party a year later.
These apart, there are also four promissory notes, believed to have been part of the instalment deal for the vehicles.
It would be a sin to sell these things separately, The New York Post quoted Zimet as saying, adding, that the papers will be sold as a package for 275,000 dollars.
He further said that Mercedes Benz might probably end up buying the papers to keep the whole matter under wraps.
Mercedes might buy it to keep it quiet, he added.
The documents however, does not include any footage of the Third Reich, though it's a known fact that all top Nazi leaders including Reichsmarschall Hermann Goering, who was captured in a bulletproof Mercedes at the end of World War II by US forces used Benzes.
Brigadier Gen. Robert I. Stalk of the 36th Infantry Division recalled, I kept Goering's car a week or so, but it was so heavy that it was a white elephant on country roads. I presented it to the commanding general, Seventh Army.
Open Mercedes touring limos were always used in parades, like 1939 Parade for Gunther Prien and the crew of U-47 upon their return to Berlin after sinking the Royal Navy battleship HMS Royal Oak. They were also used at a Mussolini parade in Rome where Hitler and Goering were joined by Nazi propaganda Minister Josef Goebbels in a Mercedes parade.
Mercedes Benz is believed to be very sensitive about its past Nazi connections and all contracts for performers at Mercedes-sponsored promotional events specify that performers refrain from any mentions of Hitler or the Nazis.
For performers, we stipulate all sorts of things about taste and decency, and, yes, that is among them, said a spokesperson for the company. (ANI)
