Dehradun, Feb.2 (ANI): A total of 910 candidates have filed their nominations for elections to the 70-member Uttarakhand Assembly.
The state polls will be held on February 21, 2007.

For the Tehri Lok Sabha seat, which is also going for by-poll on the same day, thirteen candidates have filed their nominations.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded all its sitting 18 state legislators and also former Chief Minister Nityanand Swami. The Congress has fielded 38 legislators.

State Chief Minister N D Tiwari, PCC chief Harish Rawat and senior leader Satpal Maharaj will not take part in the elections.

The Congress Party's Vijay Bahuguna will contest the vacant Tehri Lok Sabha seat. His BJP rival will be Maharaja Manujendra Shah, the son of the late BJP MP Maharaja Manvendra Shah. Social activist Usha Negi has also thrown her hat into the Tehri ring.

The last date for the withdrawal of nominations is February 5 and counting will take place on February 27. The ruling Congress and opposition BJP are being considered front runners at the hustings. (ANI)
